This month, in recognition of our site’s opening, we’ve decided to combine December Advent with a fun “Get to Know Our Designers” event. Each day, you’ll get a chance to learn about one of the amazing members of our Design Team.

It’s Day Six, and today you get to learn more about Shannon McNab of Scotty Girl Design. She’s got a fun, graphic design style that we know you will love, and her products are colorful, playful, and easy to scrap with (she’s also our resident go-to girl for all things Disney)! 😉

 

5 FUN FACTS

1. I was my high school’s mascot, Pricilla Panther, during my junior year of high school. Go panthers!
2. Before becoming 100% self employed in 2013, I worked for Pottery Barn for two years as a designer in their marketing department.
3. If I hadn’t injured my hip in junior high from a freak cheerleading accident, I would have pursued a career as a professional dancer… hopefully on Broadway.
4. I had the opportunity to attend the red carpet premiere of Pirates of the Carribean 3: At World’s End at Disneyland and it was AH-MAZ-ING!
5. I’m a card-carrying member of the Sourtoe Cocktail Club at the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City, Yukon. If you don’t know what that is, you’ll definitely want to click here to find out! 😉

5 FAVORITE THINGS

1. Pizza Toppings: Pepperoni, Pineapple, and Black Olives. It sounds gross, but the combo is amazing, trust me!
2. TV Show: Game of Thrones, Scandal, and Downton Abbey – because I can’t just pick one.
3. Movie: Gone with the Wind. It may be 75 years old, but I still haven’t found a movie that is as epic.
4. Disney Character: Flynn Ryder from Tangled. He’s the sassiest, most real male character Disney has ever had.
5. Color Combo: Aqua and Coral. Coincidentally enough, these were my wedding colors.

MY FAVORITE PRODUCT

Right now I’d say probably my Brainiac Kit. I don’t think I’d ever included that many hand drawn doodles in a kit before, and while I spent a full day getting the doodle paper to look just right, I totally fell in love with it!

1. I could sit in my pajamas all day, especially when I don’t have to go outside… so mostly on Sunday. 🙂
2. When I met my husband, he said to me, “I like to have 6 kids,” and I told him, “are you crazy?” LOL. Now after having 4 kids and we decided to stop after Mathias, my heart still wants a little baby but my mind says no because I have it already busy with our 4 lovely kids.
3. When I was 11 years old, I broke both my wrists by falling with my bike whoops…
4. I’m a SAHM since 2008; after the birth of Maaike it was time to stay home for the kids and they do love it that I’m home for them.
5. I’m a part of the parent committee of the school of our kids; it’s great to know what’s going on at school and I help a lot with the activities too.

5 FAVORITE THINGS

1. TV Show: The Vampire Diaries is one of my favorites, but I have a few more.
2. Place to Shop: shoppingscenter… I don’t go much to it but when I’m going, I’m enjoying it and try to buy stuff during the sales.
3. Food: lasagna, or anything else with pasta.
4. Favorite color: grey and mustard green.
5. Product I can’t live without: Mylène products, these are beauty products know in Belgium. I especially love the hand balm. My hands are always dry.

1. I have one blue and one green eye, it becomes more noticeable depending on my mood.
2. I studied animal husbandry in college, because I was gonna have my own horse farm when I grow up. One day, one day! 😉
3. I have a double jointed thumb and I can do serious mind-boggling stuff with it.
4. I held a wild squirrel in my hands once… and it bit me. I still have the scar. On my middle finger (LOL… this one is for you Laura!).
5. I was a certified diver, got my certification while diving in the beautiful Red Sea (Dahab) in Egypt.

1. Sketching/Drawing
2. Reading… literally anything; I devour books!
3. WOW and the new expansion Warlords of Draenor (this is such a guilty pleasure!).
4. My espresso machine and the fantastic coffee it makes…I went without it for 5 whole days and it was the worst 5 days ever.

1. I did acrobatics when I was younger, and am still rather supple in my old age; these moves usually come out as party tricks after a few glasses of wine. LOL
2. I held down three casual jobs while studying full time to put myself through Varsity to get my Textile design degree.
3. I lived in Argentina (Buenos Aires) for over a year, and had to go back to school to learn Spanish (which is so rusty now, due to not being used).
4. I have a mild OCD “have to clean my teeth” problem… let’s just say I even have a spare toothbrush and toothpaste in the car.. LOL
5. I met my hubby while camping with my folks at Bushmans River when I was 16 (married him at 22). My son met his now long-term girlfriend in the same place when she was 16, too. Sort of ironic and very much a feeling of déjà vu.

5 FAVORITE THINGS

1. Book/author: I’m a Dean Koontz, Stephan King, Robin Cook don’t miss a book girl, but will read anything except love story/sagas. I’m a thriller/sci-fi/suspense girl.
2. Actor: I love all the “oldies but goodies” – Sean Connery, Morgan Freeman, George Clooney…
3. TV Show: The Walking Dead… hubby can’t handle it, so I watch it on my own as sort of a guilty pleasure and in peace… LOL
4. Product I can’t live without: my lip Ice (or chapstick as you call it)… and of course my toothbrush… HAHAHA
5. Quote/saying: “If you worry you die, if you do not worry you still die, so why worry?”

She’s got a really clean, sophisticated (and yet artsy!) design style that we know you will love, and her products are often filled with unique handwritten words and phrases, paint brushes, splats, and other fun hand-crafted elements.

 

5 FUN FACTS

1. I can twirl a baton. I have never been a baton twirler in any official capacity. I spent all of one summer in middle school learning with my cousin, but when school started I found out you also had to be in band to be a twirler. My dad said no to the whole thing since I wasn’t actually interested in learning an instrument.
2. Two of my (five) children were born at home.
3. I am halfway through reading the Christian bible, Catholic canon. I’m slated to finish in June by reading one of those bible-in-a-year books that has daily readings.
4. I took synchronized swimming in college. It’s very hard, y’all.
5. I met my husband when I was 19 years old and we married 9 months later, while still in college. New Year’s Eve is our anniversary and this year marks our 18th.

5 FAVORITE THINGS

1. My favorite food is food. Just food.
2. My favorite dessert is a nice, fudgy brownie. With a cold glass of milk. Wait. Did I say “a” brownie? I meant All The Brownies.
3. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice.
4. My favorite place to shop is online. And that’s a remote second. My first favorite is to not have to shop at all.
5. The one product I can’t live without is Chapstick. And people around here always be taking my Chapstick.

My favorite product is Right Now because of my clocks. I love the clocks.

1. Before I had kids, I worked for over a decade as a college soccer coach.
2. I once held a wild chipmunk in my hands. In related news: chipmunks enjoy Nutri-Grain bars.
3. While in college, I spent a semester working in NYC and I interned at Rolling Stone Press.
4. During my honeymoon, our cruise ship caught fire in the middle of the Caribbean and we came within about 10 minutes of being evacuated onto life-boats. The fire stopped 9 cabins away from ours!
5. In my life, I have had 2 knee surgeries, 1 lower back surgery, and 2 emergency c-sections.

5 FAVORITE THINGS

1. Dessert: Haagen Dazs coffee ice cream (yes, brand-specific! no others can even compete!)
2. TV Show: Lately, that spot is held by The Walking Dead… a show I once told my husband I’d have zero interest in watching. True story.
3. Product I can’t live without: Aquaphor. I’ve convinced my kids it will cure anything. Even sibling rivalry. “Just put Aquaphor on it!”
4. Book: After over 2 decades and more than one reading, I still love (and will always love) the complete and uncut version of Stephen King’s The Stand.
5. Convenience Item: probably my iPhone. Cliché, I know. I care not. So convenient. 😉

MY FAVORITE PRODUCT

This is so tough, because I always tend to be crushing on my most recent products the most… but I do have a special spot in my heart for …And The Pursuit of Happiness because it’s got such an overall happy feel to it (and even though it’s theme-specific, it’s also generic enough to use all year long).
